Important note
Honest scope: land-based platform, water-supported use case
Teletrack's primary focus is commercial and fleet telematics on land. Boat tracking is a supported but secondary use case. Marine GPS performance and cellular coverage in coastal and offshore conditions vary materially from land — we cover those caveats below rather than dodge them.

Useful for charter operators tracking vessels outside authorised cruising zones, individual owners tracking movement outside home marina, and shared/club boats with multiple users.
Trip history & logbook
Every outing logged with route playback. Distance, top speed, time on water. Some commercial marine operators use trip log for charter records or insurance evidence.

Ruptela Asset5 — battery, magnetic mount
Self-contained, no wiring. LiSOCl₂ battery rated up to 3 years at 2 reports/day per Ruptela's spec. Magnetic mount fits inside a hatch or compartment. Default for trailer boats, runabouts, dinghies.

For vessels with a 12V circuit you're willing to wire into. The FMM650 supports external GPS + cellular antennas — a real win on marine installs, where the device itself sits in a dry below-deck enclosure and the antennas mount up top with a clear view of the sky and the cell tower. Hardwired, deep CAN / FMS where exposed, no battery to replace. The trade is install effort and a marine electrician.

Install and marine-specific caveats
Asset5 (battery): DIY. Mount inside a dry compartment with reasonable sky view. Configure reporting frequency and you're done in five minutes.
FMM650 (hardwired with external antennas): Best done by a marine electrician familiar with 12V boat wiring and waterproof junction practices. The win on a vessel is the FMM650's external antenna set — the device itself sits in a dry below-deck enclosure, and the GPS + cellular antennas mount above-deck with a clear view of the sky and the cell tower. We supply diagrams and phone support; we don't arrange marine installs through our land-based auto-electrician partner network.
Two marine-specific caveats worth being upfront about:
- Marine GPS accuracy: Can be worse than land GPS in some conditions — open ocean is fine, but tight harbours with high structures, under-deck mounting on the Asset5, and metal vessel hulls can degrade fix quality. The FMM650's above-deck external GPS antenna sidesteps most of this.
- Cellular coverage in coastal and offshore areas: Both devices report over 4G. If the vessel goes beyond cellular range (offshore, deep coastal blackspots), position reports buffer locally and upload when the device reconnects. Live tracking in real time stops at the edge of cellular coverage.
Common questions
How long does the Asset5 battery last on a boat?
Up to 3 years at 2 reports per day — the manufacturer-rated figure. In practice, marine conditions (cold, wet, vibration) can shorten that. Configure higher reporting frequency for shorter battery life, lower frequency for longer. Most boat-tracking customers run 4–6 reports per day and replace every 2–3 years.
Does it work offshore?
Live tracking only works inside cellular (4G) coverage. Once the vessel goes beyond cellular range, position reports buffer locally and upload when reconnected to a tower. For deep-offshore tracking you need satellite-capable hardware — that's a different product class we don't currently stock.
What happens if my boat gets stolen?
Alert us immediately. Our support team helps you locate the vessel from the platform's live map and (where appropriate) coordinates with marine police or law enforcement. Outcomes depend on how quickly you report, where the vessel has been moved, and cellular coverage at its new location. We've helped customers recover stolen vessels; we don't guarantee recovery.
Can I mount the Asset5 outside the boat?
Technically yes — it's IP67-rated — but we don't recommend it for marine use. Salt air and persistent wet conditions accelerate battery and seal degradation. Mount it inside a dry compartment with a reasonable view of the sky for best GPS performance and battery life.
Is the platform mobile-friendly for boat owners?
Yes. Native iOS and Android apps available via App Store and Google Play — push notifications for geofence alerts coming soon. Mobile-responsive web on any phone or tablet browser also available as a fall-back.
