Common questions
Does PROSTART® work on plant we hire in?
Yes — if the hire business runs Teletrack on the asset, PROSTART® works on it. Many of our hire customers (Hex Hire, Clennett Hire, Ezi Hire, SEM Hire, Liteman) install Teletrack on their plant before it goes out on hire. If your hired plant uses a different telematics brand, PROSTART® can't run on it — but PROSTART® can run on any plant you own that's fitted with a teletrack-supported tracker.
How does fuel monitoring work on heavy plant?
All hardwired trackers can read fuel — the method depends on how fuel is currently measured on the machine. CANBUS is the preferred path where available: Ruptela Smart5 or Teltonika FMM250 pull fuel-rate and tank-level data straight off the bus. Where fuel is metered with an analogue gauge or sender, we can wire that into the Digital Matter G70-BLE's analogue input. Where there's no built-in fuel meter at all — fuel pods, transfer tanks, secondary equipment — we fit Bluetooth fuel-level sensors that pair to the tracker.
How accurate is the fuel reporting?
Fuel data accuracy depends on the data source. CAN-bus engine telemetry on supported plant is highly accurate. Aftermarket fuel-level sensors are accurate to within ~3-5% depending on tank geometry. Flow sensors are accurate at the pump but require a clean install. We pick the right source per machine and surface confidence indicators on the dashboard.
How does project-level cost allocation work?
You geofence each project site. Plant inside the fence accrues hours, fuel, and operator time tagged to that project. At month-end you run a project plant cost report. Useful for variation claims, hire vs own decisions, and post-project P&L review.
Can you handle subbie plant we don't own?
Yes — through Portal Sharing. Your sub-contractor maintains their own Teletrack account on their plant; you get a head-contractor view of the plant on your site. Pre-start status, operator ID, machine activity visible to you without you having to manage the sub's subscription.
How long to deploy on a 50 to 100-asset civil fleet?
Typical 50 to 100-asset civil deployment is 2 to 4 weeks end-to-end. An Implementation Consultant runs the project. Heavy plant installs via our auto-electrician partner network — predictable per-asset rates. Light commercial can install DIY (plug-in) or via the partner network (hardwired). PROSTART® rollout follows our 6-stage process, included on Track + PROSTART®.
Are you NHVR EWD-approved?
No — Teletrack is not pursuing NHVR Electronic Work Diary approval. For heavy-vehicle fatigue compliance on civil work involving regulated heavy haulage you'll need an NHVR-approved EWD provider. Teletrack covers plant pre-starts, plant maintenance, fuel, geofencing, driver behaviour, and dashcam compliance — not fatigue regulation.
