Heavy truck

GPS tracking and telematics for heavy trucks.

For haulage, civil contractors with tippers/floats, mining trucks. Live tracking, fuel monitoring, driver scorecard, dashcam compliance for BMA/Rio Tinto/FMG. Built on FMM650 / FMC650.

Recommended hardware

Teltonika FMM650 (deep CAN/FMS/J1939, dual SIM, tacho download) for tracker-only. FMC650 when dashcam is mandatory. Ruptela Smart5 hardwired alternative.

Important note

NHVR EWD — what we are and aren't

Teletrack is not NHVR Electronic Work Diary-approved. For heavy-vehicle fatigue management under HVNL, BFM, or AFM you need an NHVR-approved EWD provider. Teletrack covers fleet visibility, dashcam compliance, fuel, and driver scorecard — not fatigue regulation.

Many of our heavy-truck customers run Teletrack alongside an NHVR-approved EWD. Teletrack for visibility, scorecard, dashcam,. The EWD for fatigue. That's the right setup.

Capabilities

What Teletrack does on a heavy truck

Live tracking

Every truck on the live map. Position updates every few seconds. Trip history per vehicle, route playback, kilometre and engine-hour totals per period.

Fuel

CAN fuel telemetry on supported engines. Optional fuel level and flow sensors. Per-asset fuel and engine-hour reports — on-road, off-road, idling, working — exportable for accountants and project costing.

Driver scorecard

Harsh braking, acceleration, over-speed, idling, cornering scored per driver. Rules-based scoring. Useful for coaching and insurance negotiation.

Dashcam compliance

FMC650 pairs with Teltonika Dashcam (forward) or DualCam (forward + driver-facing). Configured for BMA, Rio Tinto, FMG, Tier 1 site specs.

PROSTART® pre-starts

If trucks operate as plant on a mine or Tier 1 site requiring pre-start records. Operator ID, daily checklist, fails immobilise the truck.

CAN / FMS / J1939

Fault codes flow from the truck's CAN bus. Engine warnings, DPF status, AdBlue alerts. Pre-empt downtime rather than discover it on the highway.

Implementation

Install and operation

Heavy truck installs are professional installs. FMM650, FMC650, and Smart5 are hardwired with constant-power, ignition, and (for PROSTART®) starter-circuit wiring. We arrange install through our nationwide auto-electrician partner network — quoted per truck based on location, dashcam config, and CAN harness complexity. Typical install 60–120 minutes per truck for tracker-only; add time for dashcam mounting and harness routing.

If you've got a trusted auto-electrician, we'll supply install diagrams and phone support so they can fit the device themselves. For mixed fleets we commonly do bulk install run-outs across a yard in a few days — predictable per-asset rate, scheduled in advance.

Common questions

Are you NHVR EWD-approved?

No, and we're not pursuing it. For heavy-vehicle fatigue compliance under HVNL/BFM/AFM you need an NHVR-approved EWD. Many heavy-truck customers run Teletrack alongside an approved EWD — Teletrack for visibility, scorecard, dashcam; the EWD for fatigue.

Why FMM650 over FMC650?

FMM650 is the flagship — deep CAN/FMS/J1939, tacho download, dual SIM, RS232/RS485, K-Line. FMC650 has the same capability but on Cat 1 cellular for video. Pick FMM650 if no dashcam needed; FMC650 if you do.

What does dashcam compliance actually mean?

Customers accessing BMA, Rio Tinto, FMG, and Tier 1 head-contractor sites are increasingly required to have dashcam-equipped vehicles for gate access. We supply two Teltonika dashcam SKUs — Dashcam (forward) and DualCam (forward + driver-facing) — paired with FMC650.

Is the FMC650 TCA-approved? Can I use Teletrack for TCA-compliant work?

The Teltonika FMC650 hardware itself carries TCA (Transport Certification Australia) approval — we can supply it as the in-vehicle unit for fleets that need TCA-certified hardware. The Teletrack software platform itself does NOT yet hold the matching TCA software accreditation. If your work requires TCA-compliant data submission, the hardware is fine but the software side would need to be paired with a TCA-accredited reporting provider until our own accreditation lands. Talk to us if TCA is on your buying spec — we can walk through where the line currently sits.

Does fuel reporting work on heavy trucks?

Yes. Engine hours, off-road km, idle-vs-working time, and CAN fuel telemetry on supported engines. End-of-period fuel reports break down on-road / off-road / idle / working for accountant use or project costing.

Can we install mixed hardware?

Yes. Platform handles mixed hardware natively. Run FMC650 on dashcam-required vehicles, FMM650 on the rest, Smart5 on a few trucks. Same dashboard, same reports.
