Telehandler
GPS tracking and pre-starts for telehandlers.
Telehandlers are HRWL-ticketed machines. PROSTART® pre-starts with immobilisation, operator ID tied to ticket validity, engine-hours servicing, geofencing, anti-theft. Preferred kit: Ruptela Smart5 hardwired + Ruptela Asset5 as a hidden backup tracker.
Recommended hardware
Preferred kit: Ruptela Smart5 hardwired for PROSTART® immobilisation and CANBUS reads, paired with a hidden Ruptela Asset5 as a Bluetooth-detected backup tracker — Asset5 enters recovery mode when it can't hear the Smart5. Teltonika FMC650 + Teltonika Dashcam / DualCam when the telehandler has a fully enclosed cab and video coverage adds a layer of security.
Capabilities
What Teletrack does on a telehandler
PROSTART® pre-starts
Telehandler won't start until pre-start passes. Daily safety checklist built by your safety team. Fails immobilise machine and auto-create maintenance work order. Tamper-evident audit log for WHS and Tier 1 site evidence.
Operator ID + HRWL ticket
Operators linked to HRWL number, class (typically WP for telehandlers), and expiry. RFID, iButton, keypad, or QR identifies operator. If ticket expired, operator can be blocked from pre-starting — or just flagged to supervisor.
Engine hours & servicing
Engine hours flow from tracker into maintenance module. 250/500/1000-hour intervals auto-trigger work orders. Critical for hire businesses billing by usage.
Geofencing & alerts
Draw zones around job sites, yard, or 'do not leave' boundaries. Movement outside hours or geofence triggers alerts. Useful for hire fleets (off-hire detection) and multi-site management.
Anti-theft & recovery
Telehandlers are theft targets — high-value, road-legal, saleable. Movement outside geofences or agreed hours triggers alerts. Active recovery support when stolen.
CANBUS fault codes
On telehandlers with exposed engine data, fault codes flow from CAN bus into platform. Engine warnings, hydraulic faults, DPF status. Pre-empt breakdowns mid-job.
Hardware
Recommended hardware for telehandlers
Preferred: Ruptela Smart5 + Asset5 backup
Smart5 hardwired in the cab for PROSTART® pre-starts with immobilisation, CANBUS / J1939 fault code reading where the machine exposes it, engine-hours, and operator ID tied to HRWL ticket validity. A hidden Ruptela Asset5 pairs over Bluetooth as a defence-in-depth backup tracker — when the Asset5 can't hear the Smart5's BLE signal (typically because a thief has found and disabled the visible tracker), it enters recovery mode automatically with higher reporting frequency and an alert to Teletrack. Telehandlers are high-value, road-legal, and saleable — this two-tracker setup is the right kit.
Smart5 detail →Fully enclosed cab: Teltonika FMC650 + Dashcam
Where the telehandler has a fully enclosed cab and video coverage adds a layer of security or site-spec compliance, Teltonika FMC650 hardwired with a Teltonika Dashcam (single forward-facing) or DualCam (forward + driver-facing) gives you the telematics + video kit. Pair with the Ruptela Asset5 backup tracker the same way as the Smart5 setup for theft-recovery defence-in-depth.

Professional hardwired install
Hardwired install via our nationwide auto-electrician partner network — typically 30–60 minutes per machine for tracker-only, longer with PROSTART® relay wiring into the starter circuit. We arrange install and quote per machine based on location and machine make.
For hire fleets and construction outfits with preferred installers, we provide diagrams and phone support. Bulk installs across a yard are scheduled in a couple of days for typical fleet sizes — predictable per-asset rate.
Common questions
Does PROSTART® immobilisation work on every telehandler make?
Yes. PROSTART® works via a relay wired into the starter circuit, and the Ruptela Smart5 (preferred) and Teltonika FMC650 (where you also need a dashcam) both support it. We've fitted telehandlers across major AU brands including Magni, JCB, Manitou, Merlo, Genie, Bobcat. Always confirm in pre-install consultation — older or unusual machines may need different relay config.
How does HRWL ticket tracking work day-to-day?
Each operator set up with HRWL number, class (typically WP for telehandlers or LF where machine is forklift-configured), and expiry date. Platform alerts ahead of expiry — typically 30/60/90 day reminders. Operators can be blocked from pre-starting a machine class their licence doesn't cover, or just flagged to supervisor — configurable per fleet.
What about Hammertech integration on Tier 1 sites?
PROSTART® integrates with Hammertech end-to-end. Operator HRWL status, ticket validity, induction state flow from Hammertech into PROSTART® — if operator isn't qualified, pre-start can't pass. Completed pre-starts and incidents flow back to Hammertech.
Will it read CANBUS on my telehandler?
Depends on the machine. The Smart5 and FMC650 both read CANBUS / J1939 where the telehandler exposes engine data — engine hours, fault codes, fuel level. Older or basic-spec machines return GPS, engine-on status, battery voltage but no deeper diagnostics. We confirm per make / model in scoping.
Why pair an Asset5 backup tracker with the hardwired unit?
Telehandlers are high-value, road-legal, and saleable — they're persistent theft targets. A visible hardwired tracker is the first line; a thief who knows what they're looking for will find and disable it. A hidden Ruptela Asset5 paired over Bluetooth with the cab-mounted Smart5 (or FMC650) gives you defence-in-depth: when the Asset5 stops hearing the hardwired tracker's BLE signal, it enters recovery mode automatically — higher reporting frequency, aggressive cellular behaviour, and a Teletrack alert. Two-tracker setup is the right kit for the gear that hurts to lose.
Can my hire customers see the telehandlers they're renting?
Yes — hire customer portal. They log in and see only the assets they've hired: location, engine hours, return date, pre-start records, geofence breaches. Stops the 'where's my telehandler?' call.
