Trailer
GPS tracking for trailers — battery-powered, long-life, magnetic mount.
Ruptela Asset5 — up to 3 years' battery life at 2 reports a day, magnetic mount, anti-theft alerts, active recovery support. Geofence yards and customer sites for rental leakage detection.
Recommended hardware
Ruptela Asset5 (LiSOCl₂ battery, 3 years at 2 reports/day, magnetic mount) or Digital Matter Barra GPS (2x AA replaceable batteries). Both IP67, no hardwiring needed.
Why trailers
What Teletrack does on a trailer
Long-term unpowered tracking
Location updates at your chosen cadence — 2/day typical for asset audit; hourly for active hire fleets; movement-triggered for low-battery conservation.
Anti-theft + recovery
Geofence breach alerts, unauthorised tow detection, active recovery support. Trailer theft is a real AU fleet problem — the platform flags it as it happens.
Geofence-based alerts
Yards, customer sites, no-go zones. For hire fleets, geofence customer sites to confirm trailer location and catch leakage early.
Rental leakage detection
Automated alerts when a trailer is used outside parameters — past return date, outside permitted hours, beyond geofenced site. Catch leakage as it happens.
Hardware
Battery-powered options for trailers
Both options are battery-powered — designed for non-powered assets where you can't tap 12V / 24V. No wiring needed. Magnetic mount on the trailer chassis.
Ruptela Asset5
LiSOCl₂ battery, up to 3 years at 2 reports/day (per Ruptela's spec). IP68-rated. BLE-capable for sensor pairing — temperature probes for refrigerated trailers, plus companion-recovery pairing with a Ruptela Smart5 hardwired tracker on high-theft assets (see anti-theft FAQ). Default for AU trailer fleets.
View →Digital Matter Barra GPS
2x AA Li cells, user-replaceable. Up to 8 years at 1 report per day per Digital Matter's manufacturer claim. IP68. Magnetic tamper switch — if someone pulls the device off its mount, a tamper alert fires; you set in the Teletrack platform who receives those notifications per asset. Right when you want a long-life secondary tracker or quick-deploy with field-replaceable batteries.

What these devices don't do
Neither supports immobilisation (no power means no relay). Neither reads CANBUS (trailers don't have one). Reporting cadence is configurable but trades against battery life. 2 reports a day = up to 3 years on Asset5; bump to hourly and the battery window shortens.
Install
DIY magnetic mount — five minutes
We ship the device pre-configured to your account. You (or your yard team) magnetic-mount it in a discreet location — chassis underside, drawbar, or inside a sealed compartment. No tools, no auto-electrician, no downtime.
Mount placement matters: Keep the device away from large metal mass directly over the antenna for coverage. Mount it out of casual sight (ideally in a structural cavity) for theft resistance. We supply mounting guidance per trailer type. Most fleets fit 10 trailers in an hour once they've worked out the routine.
Common questions
How long does the battery last?
Asset5 — up to 3 years at 2 reports per day (per Ruptela's spec). Increase reporting frequency and the window shortens — hourly is closer to 12–18 months. Barra GPS uses 2x AA Li cells, user-replaceable, with a manufacturer claim of up to 8 years at 1 report per day. Reporting cadence is the main lever on battery life for either device.
What happens when the Asset5 batteries run out?
The Asset5's LiSOCl₂ cells aren't field-replaceable like the Barra GPS's AA cells — when the battery hits end-of-life, contact us and we'll quote a battery replacement. We'll either replace the cells in-house or supply a refurbished unit, depending on the device's condition. Plan the replacement against your fleet's expected duty cycle; running at 2 reports/day, the 3-year window is the planning number.
How does anti-theft recovery work on a trailer?
Out of the box you get geofence breach alerts, out-of-hours movement alerts, and active recovery support from our team. For high-theft assets — flagship trailers, fuel pods, expensive specialised gear — pair an Asset5 with a Ruptela Smart5 hardwired tracker (or a Smart5-equipped towing vehicle) to layer in companion-recovery mode: the Asset5 listens for the Smart5's Bluetooth signal periodically, and when the signal drops out (typically because the visible hardwired tracker has been found and disabled), the Asset5 enters recovery mode automatically — higher reporting frequency, aggressive cellular behaviour, and an alert to Teletrack. Defence-in-depth for the gear that hurts to lose.
How does the Barra GPS tamper alert work?
The Barra GPS has a magnetic tamper switch on its mount. If someone pulls the device off its magnetic base, the switch fires a tamper alert to the platform. You configure in the Teletrack platform who receives those notifications per asset — typically the fleet manager, yard supervisor, and on-call ops. Pair with a geofence breach alert for layered theft detection on high-value assets.
Will it work on remote sites?
Yes. Both devices are 4G LTE-M / NB-IoT capable with fallback. For fringe-coverage areas the device buffers locally and uploads at next sync. For genuinely off-grid trailers, expect occasional gaps — device picks up on next signal.
Can I move the tracker between trailers?
Yes — that's the strength of a magnetic-mount device. Unbolt, walk it to the next trailer, refit. Asset assignment changes in software. Some hire fleets pool trackers across rotating trailers for short-rental units.
Does it support immobilisation?
No. Battery devices don't have the power budget for a permanent relay. If you need immobilisation, the asset needs a hardwired device — but most unpowered trailers aren't wired.
What about cold-chain trailers?
Asset5 pairs with temperature probes for refrigerated/cold-chain trailers — multi-zone supported. Temperature data appears alongside location with breach alerts on configurable thresholds.
