Asset tracking

Live GPS, geofencing, history playback, and theft-response assistance — we'll help you mobilise a police-accessible live tracking link when an asset goes missing. From $21.90 / asset / month.

Core capabilities

What asset tracking gives you.

Live location + history playback

Every asset on a single map. Devices send updates on a mix of triggers — time interval, distance travelled, speed change, heading change, ignition or digital input changes, harsh events, impacts, and rollover on supported hardware — so the map stays close to real-time. Full history playback for any asset and date range. Stop, idle, and route reports available as PDF, Excel, or live interactive data on the map.

Geofencing + alerts

Draw circular zones around yards, sites, depots, or customer addresses. Entry and exit alerts route to email, SMS, or webhook (native in-app notifications coming soon). Use zones for after-hours movement alerts, on / off-hire workflow gates, and rental leakage detection.

Theft-response assistance

When you flag an asset as stolen, we'll help you mobilise: a time-limited shared link gives police — and anyone else who can help — live access to the asset's position. On supported units we'll also boost the device's reporting cadence or switch it to recovery mode. Detection is on you (have the right alerts configured and watched); the platform and the support team are there once you raise the flag.

If an asset goes missing

How Teletrack helps when you flag a theft.

Detection is the customer's responsibility — you need the right alerts configured and someone watching them, and you need to use the platform's tracking capabilities to keep eyes on the asset. Once you flag a theft, Teletrack support gets involved and we'll do everything we can to help.

Once you raise the flag. Notify Teletrack — call, email, or raise it in the platform — and we'll mobilise. We can generate a time-limited shared tracking link so police and anyone else who can help get live access to the asset's position for the recovery window without needing a Teletrack login. We'll also push the device to higher-frequency reporting on the spot.

If the tracker is being difficult. Sometimes a device drops off, slows down, or behaves oddly under theft conditions (poor signal in a shipping container, vehicle off, antenna interference). On supported units we can switch to recovery mode — different reporting profile, more aggressive cellular behaviour — to maximise the chance of useful position data.

Immobilisation. On hardwired devices with relay outputs (G70-BLE, Dart3-BLE, TrakaX® Series 2, FMM250 / FMM650 / FMC650, Smart5), we can remotely immobilise a confirmed-stolen asset to prevent further movement while recovery is coordinated. Immobilisation is not available on battery devices (Barra GPS, Asset5) or OBD plug-ins (FMM003, Plug5).

Use cases

Where asset tracking gets used.

Heavy plant + earthmoving

Excavators, dozers, telehandlers, generators. Live location, ignition status, engine hours. Stop sheets for operator audit. Yard-to-site geofence movement tracking. Ruptela Smart5 (hardwired) and Ruptela Asset5 (battery, non-powered) are the primary picks going forward; FMC650 is used specifically when the asset is being fitted with a Teltonika Dashcam or DualCam.

Light commercial fleet

Utes, vans, light trucks. Driver-attributed trips, idle reports, after-hours alerts. Ruptela Plug5 is the primary OBD plug-in; Teltonika FMM003 is an alternative OBD option. For permanent fit-outs, Ruptela Smart5 is preferred over the Teltonika FMM250, but both hardwired options are supported.

Non-powered + trailer assets

Trailers, containers, attachments, generators. Battery-powered tracking on 3-year cells (Asset5) or 2x AA Energizer Lithium (Barra GPS). Slow reporting cadence preserves battery; geofence and movement alerts still active.

Hire and rental fleet

On / off-hire workflows triggered by geofence. Rental leakage detection — assets that have left a customer site without being formally returned. Customer-facing portal sharing on hired assets. Integrates with HirePOS, MCS, Syrinx, and Latner.

Share asset locations without giving away your platform

Tracking data is more useful when the right people can see it. Hire customer portal, head contractor site view, OEM whitelabel branded portal, or a secure no-login link — four sharing modes, all built in.

Compliance and data

Data residency, retention, and privacy.

All tracking data, history, and geofence records are stored on AWS Sydney infrastructure. Aligned with the Privacy Act 1988 and the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme. We don't auto delete your data. Exportable any time as PDF or Excel, viewed live as interactive map data, or pulled via the public API and scheduled reports. Granular permissions across users, branches, and asset groups. Your data, your control.

Common questions

How often does the tracker report its location?

Devices don't send updates on a fixed clock — they send when something is worth telling you about. Reports fire on a mix of timing intervals AND event triggers: time elapsed since the last report, distance travelled, speed change, heading change (cornering, lane changes), ignition or digital input changes, harsh events, impacts, and rollover detection on supported hardware. The result on the map is close to real-time movement, not just a ping every minute.

The exact mix is configurable per asset. Battery devices (Barra GPS, Asset5) lean more on event triggers and time-based check-ins (e.g. a few reports per day at default) to preserve battery; hardwired devices on a running asset report much more frequently. When you flag an asset as stolen we can push supported units to recovery mode for an even tighter cadence.

Can I track non-powered assets like trailers and containers?

Yes. Ruptela Asset5 is the standard pick — up to 3 years of battery life at 2 reports per day (per Ruptela spec). Digital Matter Barra GPS is the budget alternative running on 2x AA Energizer Lithium cells. Both support geofencing and movement alerts; neither supports immobilisation (there's nothing to immobilise on a non-powered asset).

What happens if an asset is stolen?

Once you raise the flag — call or email — Teletrack support gets involved. We can generate a time-limited shared tracking link so police and anyone else who can help (recovery contractors you've engaged, your own ops team) get live access to the asset's position without needing a Teletrack login. We can also push the device to higher-frequency reporting, and on supported units switch it to recovery mode for a tighter cadence when the tracker is being difficult.

On hardwired devices with relay outputs we can remotely immobilise the asset to stop further movement while recovery is coordinated. No separate recovery success fee — the platform support is included.

Can I set up alerts for specific situations?

Yes. Common alert configurations include after-hours movement, geofence entry / exit, ignition-on without operator ID (PROSTART®), tow detection, low battery (battery devices), GPS signal loss, and excessive idle. Alerts route to email, SMS, or webhook for systems integration. Native in-app notifications are coming soon.

Does asset tracking integrate with my hire / ERP system?

Yes — direct integrations with HirePOS, MCS, Syrinx, and Latner. On / off-hire workflows can be geofence-triggered. Customer records sync automatically; no double entry.

How do I see asset usage history?

History playback from the asset's full record. Pick the asset, pick the date range, and step through the route at any speed. Stop reports, idle reports, trip summaries, and engine-hours reports all available standard. Exportable as PDF or Excel, or kept as live interactive data on the map. Scheduled reports go out daily / weekly / monthly to whoever you nominate.

Can my customers see their own tracking data?

Yes — via the hire customer portal (Mode 1 of portal sharing). Your customers log in and see only the assets they're renting. Live location, usage hours, geofence breaches, scheduled return dates. Reduces "where's my hire?" phone calls and speeds up invoice disputes.
