PROSTART® pre-starts

Pre-starts that immobilise across every hardwired tracker we sell — Digital Matter, Teltonika, Ruptela, and TrakaX®. Hammertech-integrated.

Track + PROSTART® — $31.90 / asset / month

+$10 vs Track + Safety's +$5 — the upgrade is cross-vendor immobilisation. Bundled with the Maintenance Module. Month-to-month, no lock-in contracts. Managed 6-stage rollout included.

How it works

A four-step flow, every time the machine starts.

  1. 1

    Scan

Operator scans the machine's QR code with their smartphone and signs in with their Teletrack login. RFID, iButton, and keypad are available as quick-access overrides or for access control on assets without pre-starts.

  2. 2

    Check

The pre-start questionnaire runs on the operator's phone, tablet, or in-cab device. Custom-built per machine type using Teletrack's form-builder — your team builds it once, deploys to every machine. Photo capture and field validation on any question.

  3. 3

    Pass

Every required check passes. Any fail is photo-evidenced and routed straight to maintenance as a work order.

  4. 4

    Power

The machine unlocks. Operator works. The check, the operator ID, the time, the location — all stored in the immutable audit trail for compliance evidence.

The differentiator

Cross-vendor immobilisation — only Teletrack.

Most pre-start apps are tick-box exercises. The check runs but the machine still starts whether the operator passed or not. The ones that do immobilise only do it on their own proprietary hardware. PROSTART® immobilises across every hardwired tracker in our portfolio.

Supported for immobilisation

  • Digital Matter G70-BLE
  • Digital Matter Dart3-BLE
  • TrakaX® Series 2 (Australian-designed, PROSTART-native)
  • Teltonika FMM250, FMM650, FMC650
  • Ruptela Smart5

Pre-start checks (without immobilisation) work on

  • Digital Matter Barra GPS (battery tracker — no wires)
  • Teltonika FMM003 (OBD plug-in)
  • Ruptela Plug5 (OBD plug-in)
  • Ruptela Asset5 (battery / non-powered)

You can mix and match across your fleet — the same PROSTART® workflow runs on all of them.

Hammertech integration — Tier 1 ready

Operators on a Tier 1 / Tier 2 construction site authenticate once. Site induction status, ticket and licence currency come from Hammertech — if the operator isn't inducted or the ticket has expired, the pre-start can't pass. Completed pre-starts and failure events flow back to Hammertech for site reporting. One login. One source of truth. Zero duplicate admin.

Managed rollout

The 6-stage rollout — included with PROSTART®.

We don't drop a piece of software on you and walk away. Every PROSTART® deployment on the Track + PROSTART® tier includes our 6-stage managed rollout.

  1. 1

    Group training

Your team meets ours. We walk through how PROSTART® works, what immobilisation does, how operators interact with it, and what you can customise. Conversations around what you need as a business as priority.

  2. 2

    Setup

We train you to become confident using the system, accounts, sites, asset categories, operator groups. We're with you every step of the way

  3. 3

    Operator load

Operators self register into the platform with their licences, tickets, and competencies. You approve, access is granted. If you're running Hammertech, this syncs automatically.

  4. 4

    Induction video

We help you load your existing site / company induction video. Operators watch and acknowledge before their first pre-start.

  5. 5

    Questionnaire creation

Your safety team designs pre-start questionnaires per machine type using our form-builder. We help with the first three; you build the rest.

  6. 6

    Ongoing phone + email support

Every PROSTART® customer gets phone and email support from a person in Australia. Not chat-bots, not ticket-only. You can call, or email.

Operator identification

QR code as the primary method — three backups when you need them.

QR-on-the-machine + smartphone login is the default identification flow for pre-starts. The other three methods sit alongside as overrides or for assets running access control without a pre-start.

QR code (primary)

Operator scans the machine's QR with their smartphone and signs in with their Teletrack login. Lowest-friction, no tokens to manage, and the operator's identity is verified by their account — not just by what's in their hand.

RFID (backup / access control)

Wave a card or fob. Use as a quick-access override on pre-start-enabled assets, or as standalone access control on assets that don't run a pre-start.

iButton (backup / access control)

Touch a Dallas key reader. Common on heavy plant. Same role as RFID — quick override on pre-start assets, or access control on plant without pre-starts.

Keypad (backup / access control)

Type a PIN. Useful when issuing physical tokens isn't practical. Same role as RFID and iButton — backup override or access control without pre-start.

Compliance built in

Every completion, fail, override, and operator action is logged in the immutable audit trail — tamper-evident, exportable at your finger tips.

Failed pre-starts auto-create work orders + notify the right people

A failed pre-start doesn't just stop the machine — it creates a work order in the Maintenance module with the operator's photo evidence, the fault description, and the asset's full history attached. The same fail event triggers an email to your nominated supervisors and maintenance team with the photos and text details attached, so the people who need to know are notified immediately.

Common questions

What happens if an operator fails the pre-start?

The machine stays immobilised. The fail is logged with the operator ID, the date / time, the location, and any photo evidence the questionnaire captured. A work order is auto-created in Maintenance and routed to the responsible technician, and an email goes to your nominated supervisors and maintenance team with the photos and text details attached.

The operator can complete another pre-start — if they answer differently and the new attempt passes, the asset will start. The previous failure stays documented in the audit trail and the supervisor notification still fires, so a passing second attempt doesn't quietly bury the first one.

Can we customise questions per machine type?

Yes. Every customer designs their own pre-start questionnaires using Teletrack's form-builder. Different questions for a forklift vs an excavator vs a light vehicle. Photo capture and field validation on any question. Your safety team owns the content.

Does it work offline?

Coming soon via iOS and Android apps.

How is data stored and retained?

All pre-start records — pass, fail, override, photo — are stored on AWS Sydney infrastructure. We don't auto delete your data. Exportable any time via the platform UI, CSV, or API.

Does immobilisation work on Teltonika and Ruptela hardware?

Yes — that's the core differentiator. Immobilisation works on any hardwired tracker in the Teletrack lineup: Digital Matter G70-BLE and Dart3-BLE, TrakaX® Series 2, Teltonika FMM250 / FMM650 / FMC650, and Ruptela Smart5. The pre-start check itself runs on OBD and battery devices too (Teltonika FMM003, Ruptela Plug5, Ruptela Asset5), but immobilisation needs a hardwired device with a relay output.

How do we onboard a 200-machine fleet?

The 6-stage managed rollout handles it. Typical 10–50 asset fleet is live in 1–2 weeks; a 200-machine fleet is 4–8 weeks depending on install logistics (professional install via our partner network, DIY for plug-in / battery devices, or your own auto-electrician for hardwired). An Implementation Consultant is assigned to the project from kick-off to go-live.

What if an operator overrides the pre-start in an emergency?

Overrides use the secondary identification methods — iButton, keypad, or RFID — to release the immobiliser without completing the pre-start questionnaire. The override is captured in the audit trail with full context (who, when, where, what method), and an automatic notification is sent to the people who need to know — supervisors, safety leads, and the maintenance team — at the moment the override fires.

Does PROSTART® integrate with Hammertech?

Yes — full SSO plus workflow integration. Operator competency, ticket validity, and site induction status flow from Hammertech into PROSTART® (the pre-start gates on what Hammertech says). Completed pre-starts and incidents flow back. Decisive for Tier 1 site work.

Is the operator app native iOS / Android?

Yes — native iOS and Android operator apps are available now via the App Store and Google Play. PROSTART® runs on the native app today, with push notifications and offline pre-starts coming soon. Mobile-responsive web (and the tablet-based in-cab option) remains available as a fall-back for operators who prefer the browser.
