GPS tracking for forklifts — PROSTART® pre-starts with immobilisation.

Hardwired on Ruptela Smart5 or Teltonika FMM250 — RFID operator ID, HRWL ticket-expiry gating, PROSTART® pre-starts with immobilisation, hours-based servicing. Built around the national forklift code of practice.

Recommended hardware

Preferred kit on 12–24V LPG / IC forklifts: Ruptela Smart5 hardwired + Ruptela Asset5 as hidden backup tracker. Teltonika FMC650 paired with a Topicon MDT865 cabin-mounted Android tablet for the pre-start workflow + Teltonika Dashcam / DualCam where video is required. Ruptela Eco5 Lite+ (POA) handles 48 / 80 / 97V electric forklifts natively; TrakaX® Series 2 is the alternative high-voltage option. FMC650 can also be deployed with a step-down converter on higher-voltage trucks where the external GPS + 4G antenna materially helps in shielded warehouse cabins.

What Teletrack does on a forklift

PROSTART® pre-starts

Operator scans RFID, runs daily pre-start questionnaire. Pass — truck unlocks. Fail — photo-evidenced, routed to maintenance. No pre-start, no power.

Operator ID — RFID standard

RFID cards or fobs are practical in warehouse environments — quick, gloves-friendly, durable. Also support iButton, keypad PIN, QR if your fleet uses them.

HRWL ticket tracking

High-Risk Work Licence (LF, LO) ticket expiries surface in Inductions module. If ticket lapsed, pre-start can't pass. No more spreadsheet-based compliance.

Hours-based maintenance

Engine/motor hours tracked from machine for scheduled servicing — battery intervals for electric, oil intervals for LPG/diesel. Auto-triggered work orders.

Impact + over-speed

Hardware logs impacts and over-speed events with timestamp, operator ID, location. Combine with operator scorecard for coaching.

Ruptela Smart5 hardwired in the cab for PROSTART® pre-starts with immobilisation, CANBUS / J1939 reads where the truck exposes it, RFID operator ID, and HRWL gating. A hidden Ruptela Asset5 pairs over Bluetooth as a defence-in-depth backup tracker — enters recovery mode if it stops hearing the Smart5. Useful on high-value flagship trucks that sit unattended overnight.

Dashcam + cabin tablet (FMC650 + Topicon MDT865)

Teltonika FMC650 hardwired for the telematics + Teltonika Dashcam (single forward-facing) or DualCam (forward + driver-facing) for site-spec video. Pair with the Topicon MDT865 — a rugged Android tablet that mounts in the operator's cabin and runs the Teletrack Android app for pre-starts and operator workflow. The FMC650 also ships with an external GPS + 4G antenna that materially helps in shielded warehouse cabins where in-unit antennas struggle.

High-voltage forklifts (48 / 80 / 97V): Eco5 Lite+

Ruptela Eco5 Lite+ handles 48 / 80 / 97V electric forklifts natively — no converter required. POA pricing on the unit. TrakaX® Series 2 is the alternative high-voltage option (POA + 500-unit MOQ). If the rest of the fleet is on FMC650 + dashcam, we can also deploy the FMC650 with a step-down converter to bring the truck into its 9–32V range; the external antenna is a real win in cabin-shielded electric forklift environments.

Indoor coverage

Indoor positioning isn't a feature we ship today

Aisle-precise indoor location via BLE beacons isn't part of the platform today. Forklift fleets running indoors rely on the PROSTART® pre-start workflow, operator ID, HRWL gating, and the maintenance trail — not on real-time aisle-level position. For outdoor / yard / dock work standard GPS is fine; for purely indoor operations the FMC650's external GPS + 4G antenna helps the platform stay connected even when the in-cabin reception is shielded.

Professional hardwired install

Typical fit is 30–60 minutes per truck with an auto-electrician — switched 12V / 24V power on LPG / IC trucks, or the Eco5 Lite+ direct off a 48 / 80 / 97V electric forklift bus, plus ground and relay loop into the start / seat-presence circuit for PROSTART® immobilisation. Where the rest of the fleet is standardised on FMC650 we can deploy it on high-voltage trucks via a step-down converter; the external GPS / 4G antenna is the win on shielded electric forklifts.

Three options: Professional install via our partner network (scheduled around warehouse downtime). Customer-arranged auto-electrician (common for fleets with in-house workshops). DIY isn't a fit — forklift wiring needs a licensed electrician.

Common questions

How long does install take?

Typical 30–60 minutes per truck with an auto-electrician on 12 / 24V LPG / IC forklifts. For 48 / 80 / 97V electric forklifts the Ruptela Eco5 Lite+ wires direct off the truck's bus — no converter needed. Where the rest of the fleet is FMC650-standardised we can fit it on high-voltage trucks via a step-down converter. We can arrange install through our partner network or supply diagrams to your own installer.

Does it work indoors?

Indoor aisle-precise positioning via BLE beacons isn't a feature of the platform today — we won't claim it. Standard GPS is fine for outdoor / yard / dock movements; for purely indoor operations the workflow centres on PROSTART® pre-starts, RFID operator ID, HRWL ticket gating, and the maintenance trail rather than real-time aisle-level location. The FMC650's external GPS + 4G antenna helps the platform keep cellular reception inside shielded warehouse cabins.

Can I run the pre-start on a cabin-mounted tablet?

Yes — the Topicon MDT865 rugged Android tablet mounts in the operator's cabin and runs the Teletrack Android app for pre-starts and the operator workflow. Useful where the operator needs a dedicated in-cabin screen rather than a personal phone or handheld. Common pairing is FMC650 (telematics + dashcam) plus MDT865 in the cab. How do you handle 48V / 80V / 97V electric forklifts?

Native: Ruptela Eco5 Lite+ handles up to 97V direct off the truck's bus — no converter required. POA pricing on the unit. TrakaX® Series 2 is the alternative high-voltage option (POA + 500-unit MOQ). On fleets standardised on FMC650 we deploy a step-down converter so the FMC650 (9–32V) sits behind it; the external GPS + 4G antenna is a real win in cabin-shielded electric forklift environments. We pick the path per fleet at quote time.

Does PROSTART® immobilisation work on forklifts?

Yes. PROSTART® cross-vendor immobilisation works on every hardwired tracker in the lineup — Ruptela Smart5 / Eco5 Lite+, Teltonika FMM250 / FMM650 / FMC650, Digital Matter G70-BLE, and TrakaX® Series 2. Relay wires into the start or seat-presence circuit and gates power on pre-start pass / fail.

Can the platform block a forklift if HRWL ticket expired?

Yes — through the Inductions module. Operator HRWL validity is tracked. If ticket lapsed, operator can't pass pre-start scan, and forklift stays immobilised. Syncs with Hammertech if you're running that.

What operator ID method works best?

RFID. Cards and fobs are practical standard — quick to scan with gloves on, durable in dusty environments. We also support iButton, keypad PIN, QR if your fleet has standardised on something else.
