Generator

GPS tracking for generators — engine hours, fault codes, anti-theft.

Hardwired on Ruptela Smart5 or Teltonika FMM250 for engine hours, CANBUS fault codes, and PROSTART® immobilisation. Or battery on Ruptela Asset5 when hardwired isn't practical. For hire fleets, civil contractors, event power providers.

Recommended hardware

Digital Matter G70-BLE hardwired (engine hours, CANBUS, immobilisation) or Ruptela Asset5 battery when hardwired isn't practical. Hardwired for flagship units, battery for older or portable generators.

Capabilities

What Teletrack does on a generator

Engine hours for servicing

Hardwired only. Engine hours read direct from genset controller. Maintenance schedules auto-trigger at OEM intervals (250/500/1000-hour services).

Anti-theft + recovery

Generators are theft targets. Geofence breach alerts, after-hours movement detection, active recovery support. Works on both hardwired and battery devices.

CANBUS fault codes

Hardwired only. Where genset controller exposes CAN (Cummins, Perkins, Yanmar, FG Wilson), fault codes pull into the platform with auto-triggered work orders.

Geofencing

Yards, customer sites, off-hire zones. For hire fleets, 'off-hire' geofences rest the unit when back in yard; 'on-hire' zones drive charge-by-hour invoicing.

PROSTART® pre-starts

Hardwired only. Gate the start sequence. Useful for generators on construction sites where principal contractors demand pre-start compliance across all plant.

Mixed fleet model

Hardwired on flagship/high-utilisation units (engine hours + fault data). Battery on older/peripheral units (anti-theft + location). Same platform.

Hardware

Hardwired vs battery for generators

Two paths depending on whether you can hardwire the device into the genset.

Implementation

Install and operation

Hardwired (G70-BLE): 30–60 minutes with an auto-electrician. Wire to 12V/24V switched power, ground, CANBUS tap, relay loop for PROSTART®. We can arrange install through our partner network or supply diagrams to your auto-electrician.

Battery (Asset5): DIY, minutes per unit. Magnetic-mount in a discreet location. Most hire fleets fit 10 units in an hour once they've worked out the placement routine.

Many hire fleets run hardwired on flagship units (where engine hours and fault data justify the cost) and Asset5 on older/peripheral units (where anti-theft and location are the main asks).

Common questions

How long does install take?

Hardwired G70-BLE — 30–60 minutes with an auto-electrician. Battery Asset5 — minutes, DIY magnetic-mount. Most mixed fleets split the two based on unit value and utilisation.

Will the tracker work on remote sites?

Yes. Both G70-BLE and Asset5 are 4G LTE-M / NB-IoT capable. For genuinely off-grid generators, the device buffers data and uploads on reconnect. Don't expect live updates in coverage holes.

What's the battery life on Asset5?

Up to 3 years at 2 reports per day on the LiSOCl₂ industrial cell. Higher reporting cadence shortens the window. Most active hire generators run movement-triggered reporting (idle = 2/day, moving = hourly) to balance battery life with visibility.

Can I move the tracker between generators?

Asset5 — yes, trivially. Walk it to the next unit and refit. G70-BLE — technically yes, but it's an auto-electrician refit job, so most fleets leave the device on the unit for its working life.

Does it support immobilisation?

Hardwired G70-BLE — yes, via PROSTART®. Relay wires into the start circuit. Battery Asset5 — no, battery devices don't power a permanent relay.
