Driver scorecard
Rules-based driver scoring across harsh braking, acceleration, cornering, idling, rollover events, and accidents. Leaderboards, branch comparisons, coaching with dashcam tie-in. PDF report emailed on schedule.
Included in the Track tier
$21.90 per asset per month (ex GST). Month-to-month, no lock-in contracts.
What gets scored
The six behaviours that get scored
Six rules-based events. Threshold-tuned per fleet type (light vehicle thresholds differ from heavy haulage). Weighted into an overall score per driver.
Harsh braking
Brake events above a configurable G-threshold. Captured by the device's accelerometer and tied to a driver via operator ID (PROSTART®) or vehicle assignment.
Harsh acceleration
Acceleration events above threshold — aggressive launches, jackrabbit starts, rapid lane-change accelerations.
Harsh cornering
Lateral G events above threshold — cornering taken at speed. Often correlates with rollover risk on light commercial fleet and topple risk on tall plant.
Idling
Time the engine is running while the vehicle is stationary. Wastes fuel, increases wear, and (for some site specs) breaches noise / emissions requirements.
Rollover events
Roll-angle detection on supported hardware — captured by the device's gyro / accelerometer. Surfaces both confirmed rollovers and high-roll-risk near-misses for safety review.
Accidents and impacts
High-deceleration impact events above threshold. Captured second-by-second black-box style on supported hardware. Useful for incident investigation, insurance evidence, and after-event coaching.
Honest framing
Rules-based, not AI — and that's fine
A lot of telematics vendors are claiming AI-driven driver scoring. We're not.
Teletrack's driver scorecard is rules-based — configurable thresholds across the six scored behaviours (harsh braking, acceleration, cornering, idling, rollover events, and accidents), weighted into an overall score. The advantages are:
- Predictable. You set the thresholds; you know exactly what will trigger a flag. No mystery model retraining your scoring without your knowledge.
- Defensible. When an operator disputes a score, you can show them the exact rule that fired and the data that triggered it.
- Tuneable. Different fleets need different thresholds — a haulage fleet needs different harsh-braking thresholds from a light commercial fleet. You tune them.
AI-based scoring may come to Teletrack in future. Until it ships, what you see is what you get — rules-based driver scoring. It works, it's still a real product, and we'd rather call it what it is than tell you we have machine learning that we don't.
Leaderboards
Rankings and gamification
Scores by themselves don't change behaviour. Visibility does.
- Driver leaderboards — top and bottom drivers ranked per branch, per driver group, or across the whole fleet.
- Branch comparisons — branch-level scorecard ranking. Which depot is safest? Which is the worst? Useful for managers comparing apples-to-apples across geographies.
- Trend over time — driver score trajectories. Is the bottom 10% improving after coaching, or stuck?
- Scheduled PDF driver-scoring report — a PDF report containing the driver scoring is emailed to whoever you nominate on the schedule you set (typically weekly or monthly). Good for depot supervisors, safety managers, executive reviews, or insurer compliance documentation.
- Score badges + recognition workflows — recognise top performers. Some customers run quarterly safe-driver awards based on scorecard data.
The fleets that use this best are the ones that publish the leaderboard internally — depot toolbox talks, weekly emails, monthly recognition. Behaviour change happens fastest when the rankings are visible.
Coaching with dashcam evidence
A score on its own tells a driver they had three harsh-braking events last week. The dashcam clip tells them exactly when and why. When a vehicle is equipped with a Teltonika dashcam paired with the FMC650 telematics device, harsh-braking / acceleration / cornering events on the scorecard auto-link the dashcam clip from that moment. Coaching becomes specific.
Hardware compatibility
What devices support scoring
Driver scorecard works on any device with the relevant accelerometer + GPS sensors — that's all hardwired devices plus the OBD plug-ins.
| Device | Type | Scorecard scoring | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Digital Matter G70-BLE | Hardwired | Yes | Heavy plant scoring (idling especially) |
| TrakaX® Series 2 | Hardwired (AU-built) | Yes | Full scoring + PROSTART® operator ID linkage |
| Teltonika FMM003 | OBD plug-in | Yes | Light vehicle scoring |
| Teltonika FMM250 | Hardwired | Yes | Fleet vehicle scoring |
| Teltonika FMM650 | Hardwired | Yes | Heavy haulage scoring |
| Teltonika FMC650 | Hardwired | Yes | Heavy haulage + dashcam scoring (best coaching combo) |
| Ruptela Plug5 | OBD plug-in | Yes | Light vehicle scoring |
| Ruptela Smart5 | Hardwired | Yes | Fleet vehicle / plant scoring |
| Digital Matter Barra GPS | Battery | No | Not compatible for driver scoring — battery tracker without the sensors / cadence the scorecard needs |
| Ruptela Asset5 | Battery | No | Not compatible for driver scoring — battery tracker without the sensors / cadence the scorecard needs |
Driver attribution works best when you have PROSTART® operator ID running on the asset — the scorecard event is then tied to the specific operator, not just the vehicle. Without operator ID, scoring is attributed to the asset and is most useful for single-driver vehicles.
Pairs well with
Dashcam + video
The strongest coaching pair. Scorecard events link to dashcam clips — coaching conversations move from abstract to specific.
See dashcam + video →PROSTART® operator ID
Scorecard events tied to a specific operator, not just an asset. Required for fair scoring on multi-driver vehicles and heavy plant.

Is driver scorecard AI-based?
No — it's rules-based. Configurable thresholds across the six scored behaviours (harsh braking, acceleration, cornering, idling, rollover events, and accidents), weighted into an overall score. Predictable, defensible, and tuneable per fleet. AI-based scoring is on the platform roadmap but we're not claiming it as a live feature.
Can we tune the thresholds for our fleet?
Yes — and you should. Default thresholds are good starting points but a haulage fleet, a civil plant fleet, and a light commercial fleet all need different settings. Your operations / safety team owns the thresholds. We'll help with the first round of tuning as part of onboarding.
How does the scorecard know which driver was driving?
Two ways. With PROSTART® operator ID — the operator scans in (RFID, iButton, keypad, or QR) before starting the asset, so every event is tied to a specific operator. Without PROSTART® — events are attributed to the asset, useful for single-driver vehicles but less useful for shared assets. For multi-driver fleets, PROSTART® operator ID is the right call.
Do drivers see their own scores?
Optional. Some customers expose individual scores to drivers (helps with self-awareness and gamification); others restrict access to managers only. Per-role permissions control who sees what.
Does the scorecard tie into dashcam footage?
Yes — on vehicles with a Teltonika dashcam paired with the FMC650 telematics device, scorecard events auto-link the dashcam clip from the period around the event. Coaching evidence becomes specific. See dashcam + video.
How does scoring handle false positives — e.g. emergency braking?
Two mitigations. Threshold tuning — a genuine emergency brake will be at a much higher G level than aggressive normal braking; you can set the thresholds so emergencies aren't counted as repeat offences. Manual review — supervisors can flag individual events as legitimate (emergency manoeuvre, road hazard, etc.) and exclude them from the score.
What if a driver disputes their score?
Per-event drill-down. Every scoring event in the platform shows the exact time, location, severity, and (where dashcam is fitted) the video clip. Disputed events can be reviewed by a supervisor and excluded if they were legitimate. Audit trail captures who reviewed and why.
If you need a hand interpreting the data — what an event actually means, why it triggered, whether the threshold for the asset class is right — Teletrack support can walk you through it. We can also adjust the scheduled PDF reports to include more detail (per-event breakdown, dashcam links, threshold context) so the driver and supervisor have the full picture in front of them at the dispute conversation.
